Construction on Bainbridge Road is to begin in 2010. The project will cost over 13 million dollars and will entail the installation of storm sewers and the widening of the road for a bike lane. It is also possible that the sidewalk will be extended East on Bainbridge Road toward the Solon/Bainbridge border. While constuction always means inconvenience for motorists and residents, some local Solon home owners are strongly opposed to the manner in which the construction will take place.
The city plans to build a temporary street over parts of the front lawns of Bainbridge road residents to allow the road to remain 2 lanes during the construction period ( see photo ). Many of those upset include Bainbridge Road residents who fear safety concerns of cars being too close to their homes. They are also concerned because numerous mature trees must be cut down in order to put in the temporary road.
The alternative is to make Bainbridge a one-way road going East from SOM Center Road. However, there are major safety concerns by doing this. Since Bainbridge Road is a major corridor, it would make it much more difficult for safety vehicles to navigate through the city. This could add precious minutes to the time it takes an ambulance to transport someone to the hospital.
The debate will continue for now and we'll make future posts to keep you updated. One thing is certain, the construction project will move forward, the details just need to be ironed out.

Hi Chris. I do feel bad for them but perhaps the city will do some landscaping when they are done with the work to make up for the loss of trees and inconvenience.
